Programme Purpose
This 12-month Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programme is designed to develop a pipeline of skilled professionals for key operational roles within Transnet Port Terminals. It combines hands-on experience in port operations with structured workplace training, focusing on logistics, cargo handling, and terminal safety.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation: Learn to operate port machinery and equipment according to daily requirements.
Commodity Handling: Ensure various types of cargo are managed efficiently and safely.
Reporting: Complete logbooks accurately, record equipment defects, and report operational occurrences.
Communication: Maintain professional radio communication and use data terminals (such as Navis) where applicable.
Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to terminal safety policies, including the use of safety equipment and incident reporting.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
Driver’s License: Valid Code EB Driver’s License (Manual) is mandatory.
Age: Must be a South African youth (typically aged 18–35).
Advantageous: TVET N6 in Logistics, Transport, or Operations Management.
Residency: Preference is given to candidates residing within the specific municipality of the port (e.g., Buffalo City for East London; Nelson Mandela Bay for Ngqura/PE).
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical: Basic computer literacy (MS Office), hand-eye coordination, and depth perception.
Soft Skills: Strong communication, time management, problem-solving, and the ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
Attitude: Safety-driven, punctual, ethical, and a team player.
