Programme Purpose

The National Youth Service (NYS) Programme is a skills development initiative designed for unemployed youth in the technical trades. It caters to individuals with no prior work experience as well as those with industry experience who lack formal trade certification. The program bridges the gap through accredited training and practical on-the-job experience.

Construction Trade Training Areas

Training is provided in several high-demand built environment competencies, including:

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for the 2026 intake, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Residency: Must reside in the Western Cape.

  • Citizenship: South African citizens with a valid ID.

  • Age: Between 18 and 35 years old.

  • Education: Minimum of Grade 10 or equivalent (Recognition of Prior Learning - RPL is accepted).

  • Commitment: Must be willing to commit to the full 12-month programme and attend a compulsory briefing session.

  • Experience: Previous experience in construction-related trades is an advantage but not mandatory.
