Programme Overview
This apprenticeship is aimed at self-motivated individuals who wish to qualify as a Mechanical Fitter. The program provides the opportunity to gain a full national qualification through a combination of theoretical training and practical plant experience, in accordance with the standards of CHIETA and the National Artisan Moderation Body (NAMB).
Key Responsibilities
Training: Attend all theoretical classes and practical training modules at the Omnia Technical Training Centre.
Practical Experience: Undergo supervised on-the-job training within the chemical plant environment.
Maintenance Support: Assist qualified artisans with the maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical equipment.
Compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (SHE) regulations.
Assessment: Successfully complete all required assessments and maintain a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) to prepare for the Trade Test.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Grade 12 (Matric) with a minimum of 50% in:
Mathematics (Technical Mathematics is acceptable; Math Literacy is generally not accepted).
Physical Science.
Alternative Education: N2 or N3 certificate with four subjects (including Mathematics, Engineering Science, and Trade Theory).
Age: Must be a South African youth (typically between 18 and 28).
Health: Must be declared medically fit to work in a chemical plant environment (includes working at heights and in confined spaces).
Competencies & Skills
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work effectively within a team.
Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
Commitment to completing the full duration of the apprenticeship (usually 3–4 years).
