Checkers Hyper is hiring for two distinct permanent roles in the Western Cape and Gauteng. These positions offer an opportunity to join the Shoprite family, focusing on customer satisfaction and quality food production.


Position 1: Customer Service Agent

Location: Brackenfell, Cape Town

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: 45 hours per week (Shift-based: Monday–Sunday, including public holidays)

Role Overview

Acting as the frontline ambassador, the Customer Service Agent handles customer inquiries, resolves complaints, and provides detailed information on products and services to ensure a positive shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Interaction: Handle inquiries via various channels with empathy and professionalism.

  • Problem Solving: Resolve customer complaints and escalate complex issues when necessary.

  • Knowledge Management: Stay updated on product features, promotions, and store policies.

  • Performance: Meet service level goals such as resolution rates and customer satisfaction scores.

  • Administration: Maintain accurate documentation of customer interactions using Microsoft Office 365.

Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate is essential.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a customer service environment or similar role.

  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (specifically SharePoint Online).

  • Soft Skills: Excellent verbal/written communication, stress management, and problem-solving abilities.


Position 2: Baker

Location: Rock Cottage, Gauteng

Job Type: Permanent

Role Overview

The Baker is responsible for crafting high-quality baked goods, from daily breads to specialty pastries, while maintaining strict food safety and hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production: Prepare and bake a variety of products including bread, cakes, and pastries according to established recipes.

  • Quality Control: Ensure consistency in taste, texture, and appearance of all baked items.

  • Stock Management: Monitor ingredient levels, ensuring freshness and quality of raw materials.

  • Safety & Hygiene: Maintain a sanitized workspace and equipment in accordance with health and safety regulations.

  • Teamwork: Coordinate with the bakery team to meet production schedules and sales targets.

Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.

  • Experience: Previous experience as a Baker in a retail bakery, café, or high-volume environment is essential.

  • Skills: Expert knowledge of baking techniques, ingredient science, and food safety standards.

  • Attributes: High attention to detail, physical stamina, and a passion for baking.
