2. Available Streams & Requirements

SGS typically offers different paths based on your qualification level:

A. Civil Engineering Stream (Nelspruit)

  • Requirements: NQF Level 4 / National Diploma in Civil Engineering.

  • Role: Hands-on fieldwork and laboratory testing (e.g., concrete cube manufacturing, density tests, and stockpile sampling).

  • Ideal for: Graduates who want to work in road construction or materials testing laboratories.

B. Human Resources / Admin Stream (Bryanston)

  • Requirements: National Diploma or Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration.

  • Role: Assisting with Learning & Development, reporting, and data analytics.

  • Bonus: A course or qualification in Data Analytics is highly advantageous.

C. General / Laboratory Stream (Durban/Various)

  • Requirements: Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science.

  • Role: Laboratory assistant duties, sample preparation, and ensuring workshop safety compliance.


3. General Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for any SGS YES position, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen (ID required).

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old.

  • Be currently unemployed.

  • Have never participated in a YES programme before.

  • Have a clear criminal record.

  • Be willing to relocate to the specific site (e.g., Nelspruit or Bryanston) if you don't already live there.


4. Key Responsibilities

Regardless of the stream, all SGS interns are expected to:

  • Perform field or laboratory work with high accuracy.

  • Follow strict Health & Safety (SHEQ) and Quality protocols.

  • Use MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for data entry and reporting.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment (5S principles).

  • Report any deviations or irregularities to supervisors immediately.
