5. How to Apply

Transnet utilizes an online e-Recruitment system. Hard copies are rarely accepted at the gates.

  1. Online Portal: Visit the Transnet Careers Portal.

  2. Register: Create a candidate profile if you haven't already.

  3. Search: Search for "Fire Fighter" and select the specific port location (e.g., East London or Durban).

  4. Upload: Attach your CV, ID, Matric, Driver's License/PDP, and all NFPA/SAESI certificates.

6. Important Advice

  • NFPA Accreditation: Transnet is extremely strict about accreditation. Ensure your certificates carry the IFSAC or ProBoard seals (NFPA aligned).

  • Port Specifics: Shipboard fire-fighting is different from municipal fire-fighting. Mentioning any knowledge of maritime safety or "Marine Fire Fighting" will give you a significant advantage.

  • Shift Work: This role requires a 24/48 or 12-hour shift rotation. Ensure you highlight your availability for emergency call-outs.

  • Vetting: Background checks and lifestyle audits are standard for Transnet permanent employees.

Tip: In your interview, emphasize your Teamwork skills. In the fire service, your life and the lives of others depend on following orders and working as a single unit. Consistency and discipline are what the recruiters are looking for!
