Remuneration
Basic Salary: R224,208.00 – R311,280.00 per annum
Estimated Remuneration Package: R314,480.00 – R425,180.00 per annum
Job Purpose
The Special Workman is responsible for performing more complex manual and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance, installation, and repair of municipal infrastructure (such as electrical networks, water pipelines, or roads). This role serves as a lead for general workers and supports qualified Artisans.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support: Assist Artisans in the maintenance and repair of specialized equipment and infrastructure.
Team Leadership: Supervise small teams of general workers on-site to ensure tasks are completed according to safety standards.
Infrastructure Maintenance: Perform semi-skilled work such as pipe fitting, basic electrical installations, or road patching.
Site Safety: Ensure that work sites are properly demarcated and that all safety protocols (OHS Act) are strictly followed.
Equipment Care: Maintain and clean specialized tools and vehicles used by the team.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Grade 10 (Standard 8) or equivalent.
Experience: Relevant experience in a construction, plumbing, or electrical maintenance environment.
Driver’s License: A valid Code C1 (formerly Code 10) driver’s license with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) is often a mandatory requirement for this level.
Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and healthy, capable of performing manual labor and working in various weather conditions.
Vetting: Must undergo a criminal record check.
Personal Attributes
Strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
Ability to follow complex technical instructions.
Good communication skills for coordinating with the team and supervisors.
