Role Purpose
This internship provides unemployed South African graduates with practical experience in poultry nutrition and insect production systems (specifically mealworms). The role focuses on maintaining strict hygiene and operational protocols within a research insectary while supporting scientific studies on sustainable animal feed alternatives.
Key Responsibilities
Insectary Management: Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards; monitor environmental conditions like temperature and humidity for insect rearing.
Research Support: Assist with the preparation of insect substrates, collect and organize experimental data, and support researchers during trials.
Compliance: Adhere strictly to health, safety, and biosecurity guidelines to prevent contamination of research samples.
Documentation: Record research observations and contribute to written records and reports.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree, BTech, or Advanced Diploma in one of the following:
Entomology
Animal Science
Agriculture
Other related agricultural/biological disciplines.
Eligibility: * Must be a South African citizen.
Must be unemployed at the time of application.
Must have completed Grade 12.
Experience: No prior research experience is required, but a basic understanding of scientific research principles is essential.
