The South African Department of Tourism is offering external bursaries for the 2026 academic year. These bursaries are aimed at students pursuing qualifications (from Diploma to Doctorate level) in tourism and related fields at recognized tertiary institutions.

2. Study Details & Requirements

The bursary is specific to tourism-related fields. When applying, you must specify:

  • Qualification Level: Diploma through to Doctorate.

  • Postgraduate Focus: For Honours and Masters, you must provide a research project description, a problem statement, and explain the importance of your research to society.

  • Eligibility: Must be a South African citizen registered at an accredited tertiary institution.

  • Certified copy of Identity Document (ID).

  • Academic transcripts/results.

5. Important Application Advice

  • Block Letters: The Department requires the form to be filled out in capital letters for legibility.

  • Financial Honesty: Section D requires a full disclosure of household income and other bursaries. Inaccurate info can lead to disqualification.

  • Postgraduates: Your "Problem Statement" is a key decider for funding. Ensure it highlights how your tourism research helps South African society.

  • Deadline: Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Submit well before 13 March 2026.
