Programme Overview

South African Airways Technical (SAAT) invites young, passionate South African citizens to join their structured theoretical and practical training programme. This initiative aims to develop highly skilled aviation artisans in various technical trades.

Trades Offered

Applicants may choose two trades in order of preference:

  1. Aircraft Welding: Repairing components, plasma spraying, heat treatment, and part manufacturing.

  2. Aircraft Spray Painting: Corrosion prevention, protective coatings, and interior/exterior painting.

  3. Aircraft Trimming: Manufacturing and maintaining aircraft interiors and survival equipment.

  4. Aircraft Composite Structures: Manufacturing and maintaining composite components.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following two educational options:

  • Option 1: Grade 12 (Matric)

    • Mathematics (Pure): Minimum 50% (Level 4)

    • Physical Science: Minimum 50% (Level 4)

    • English: Symbol required

  • Option 2: N3 Certificate

    • Mathematics: Minimum 50% pass

    • Engineering Science: Minimum 50% pass

Core Competencies & Attributes

  • Language: Must be proficient in reading and writing English.

  • Technical Aptitude: Basic understanding of mechanical concepts is advantageous.

  • Soft Skills: Team player, attention to detail, and a strong problem-solving attitude.

  • Safety: Must have a responsible and safety-conscious mindset.
