The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Provincial Government Bursary for the 2026 academic year is currently open for applications. This program is aimed at students residing in the KZN province who wish to pursue undergraduate studies in critical and scarce skills fields.

Bursaries are awarded by specific provincial departments for the following qualifications:
Department of Human Settlements:
Construction Studies
Department of Agriculture and Rural Development:
BSc Agricultural Entomology
BSc Agricultural Engineering
National Diploma: Industrial Engineering
Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc)
Department of Provincial Treasury:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Note: Youth with disabilities may apply for any field related to the department.
Department of Transport:
BSc Civil Engineering
Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies
BCom Transport and Logistics
BCom Honours: Transport Economics
Degree in Urban and Regional Planning
2. Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be a South African citizen residing in KwaZulu-Natal.
Be between 18 and 35 years old.
Have successfully completed Matric.
Must be studying or have provisional acceptance to study full-time at a recognised public tertiary institution in South Africa for 2026.
Must be pursuing one of the specific fields listed above.
Preference is given to students studying within the KZN province.
3. Application Process
Application forms are not submitted online. They must be collected and submitted physically or via post.

4. Required Documents
Certified copy of ID and Matric Certificate.
Academic transcripts (if already at university).
Proof of registration or provisional acceptance (on institution letterhead).
Proof of residence in KZN (from a Ward Councillor).
Parent/Guardian ID and proof of household income (payslips, affidavit of unemployment, or pension proof).
5. Service Contract
Successful candidates are required to sign a service contract. Upon graduation, you must serve the relevant KZN provincial department for a period equal to the duration of the bursary funding received.
