Purpose of the Role
To support customer service at the point of sale, ensuring a world-class shopping experience. Cashiers are responsible for recording transactions accurately, adhering to company policies, and eliminating risks related to fraud or financial inaccuracies.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service: Adhere to Dis-Chem’s service policies, build professional relationships, and manage 5-star communication principles.
Transaction Processing: Receive and process all payments (cash, cards, vouchers, coupons) and manage loyalty programs (Discovery, Momentum, ABSA Rewards, eBucks, etc.).
Financial Control: Be responsible for cash flow, ensure line voids/price changes are authorized by supervisors, and place cash in drop safes according to SOPs.
Risk Management: Maintain security of till passwords, keep money secure, and report suspicious behavior or security risks.
Stock Management: Ensure all outgoing items/scripts are scanned and paid for; handle returns and exchanges when authorized.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Grade 12 / Matric.
Experience: Minimum of 6 months' experience in cashier or till operations.
Skills: Computer literate (MS Office) with sound numerical skills.
Language: Strong command of the English language.
Availability: Willing and able to work retail hours.
Competencies & Skills
In-depth knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Trustworthy, honest, and accountable.
Professional appearance and good interpersonal skills (emotional intelligence).
Ability to solve problems and analyze basic reports.
