5. Important Advice for 2026

  • Free Application: The SAPS application process is completely free. Anyone asking for money for a "guaranteed spot" is a scammer.

  • Physical Fitness Test: If your application is successful, you will be called for a physical fitness assessment (running, push-ups, sit-ups). Start training now.

  • Integrity Testing: Candidates will undergo fingerprinting, background checks, and potentially psychometric testing and medical examinations.

  • Z83 Note: While most government jobs use the Z83, the SAPS often requires their own specific application form. Make sure you use the correct one.

6. Why Join the SAPS?

  • Job Security: Permanent employment within the Public Service.

  • Full Benefits: Upon graduation, you receive a competitive salary, medical aid (Polmed), pension (GEPF), and housing allowance.

  • Career Variety: You can eventually specialize in units like the K9 Unit, Forensics, Hawks, Flying Squad, or Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.

  • Service: A direct way to contribute to the safety and stability of South Africa.

Tip: When submitting your form at the police station, ask for a receipt or proof of submission. This is your only proof that your application was received in case things get lost in the system!
