  • The "Special Forces" Environment: Working at a Special Forces facility requires a high level of discretion. Never share information about the base or its personnel on social media.

  • Z83 Signature: Ensure your Z83 form is signed and dated. Many government applications are disqualified simply because the applicant forgot to sign the form.

  • Language: While the requirements are basic, being able to speak and understand English is vital as instructions are often given in English.

  • Security Clearance: Since this is a military base, you will undergo a background check. Ensure you have no outstanding legal issues or criminal records.

6. Why Join the Department of Defence?

  • Government Benefits: Access to the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF), medical aid (GEMS) subsidy, and a 13th cheque (bonus).

  • Job Stability: Permanent government positions offer the highest level of job security in South Africa.

  • Career Path: Cleaners within the DoD can often apply for internal transfers or move into Team Leader or General Assistant roles as they gain experience.

  • Pride of Service: You are playing a direct role in supporting the men and women who serve in South Africa’s elite military units.

Tip: In your CV, list any specific cleaning machinery you have used (e.g., floor polishers, industrial vacuums). This shows you are "ready to hit the ground running" without extensive training!
