Requirements:
- Education: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent
- Experience: No prior experience required
- Skills:
- Knowledge of operating a telephone automatic switchboard
- Excellent verbal and written English proficiency
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and organisational abilities
- Reliability, tact, and discretion
- Exceptional telecom operator/switchboard skills
- Ability to handle prolonged sitting, work under pressure, and work overtime
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the switchboard, ensuring efficient handling of telephone traffic
- Receive and forward calls to the appropriate division or personnel
- Answer general enquiries and maintain records of private calls
- Record messages and maintain security-related registers
- Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of switchboard equipment
- Monitor private calls and recover associated costs
- Train new and relief staff and maintain the departmental telephone directory
- Assist with installation, relocation of telephones, and liaise with personnel division for recruitment of telecom operators
- Supervise subordinates and support performance assessments
