The City of Ekurhuleni uses a dedicated e-Recruitment system. Manual or emailed CVs are generally not considered.

  1. Online Portal: Access the City of Ekurhuleni Careers Portal.

  2. Registration: Create a profile and ensure your "Residential Address" is accurate (as they prioritize local residents).

  3. Required Documents: * A comprehensive CV.

    • Certified copy of your ID.

    • Certified copy of your Qualifications and Full Academic Record.

    • Proof of Residence (e.g., a municipal account or a letter from a Ward Councilor).

  4. Submission: Search for "Finance Intern" and apply. Keep your system-generated reference number for tracking.

5. Important Advice for 2026

  • Local Preference: If you live in Ekurhuleni, ensure your Proof of Residence is up to date (not older than 3 months). This is a critical tie-breaker for municipal roles.

  • The "MFMA" Advantage: Mentioning that you are familiar with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) in your interview will set you apart. Even a basic understanding of "Unauthorised, Irregular, Fruitless and Wasteful expenditure" shows you are prepared.

  • MS Excel Skills: Local government finance involves massive datasets. If you are comfortable with formulas and data sorting, highlight this clearly in your CV.

  • Vetting: You will be required to undergo pre-employment vetting, including criminal record and qualification verification.

6. Why Join the City of Ekurhuleni?

  • Professionalization: This internship is designed to help you meet the "Minimum Competency Levels" required for permanent senior roles in local government.

  • Chartered Accountant Path: If you are pursuing your CA(SA) or AGA(SA), working in a Metro provides excellent foundational experience for public sector auditing.

  • Networking: You will work directly with Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) and Auditors, building a professional network within the Gauteng provincial government.

Tip: During your interview, if asked about "Service Delivery," remember that Finance is the engine that allows the municipality to fix roads and provide water. Show that you understand that accurate accounting leads to better services for the community!
