The Fire Service Department in the City of Cape Town invites individuals who are 18 years or older to apply for the Fire Fighter Learnership Programme .
The programme is designed to provide individuals with the necessary skills and training to become firefighters.
The programme consists of three phases, which include a fitness test, a written assessment test, and an interview. Additionally, candidates will undergo a City Medical Evaluation and a compulsory drug test.
Upon completion of the programme, successful candidates will be appointed as firefighters and will be required to work as they are rostered. The salary for this position is R15,760.58 per month.

Fire Fighter Learnership Programme 2024
The City of Cape Town’s Fire Services Department is inviting applications for the Fire Fighter Learnership Programme 2024. This exciting opportunity is designed for individuals who are passionate about serving their community and are willing to undergo rigorous training to become firefighters.
Requirements:
– Grade 12 qualification (Mathematics and Physical Science preferred)
– 18 years or older
– Must not suffer from fear of confined spaces or heights
– Must be medically and physically fit
– Must be able to work in a team and cope with stressful situations
– No Criminal Record
Successful candidates will be required to complete the following courses presented by the learning institution:
– Firefighter 1NFPA 1001
– Hazmat Awareness NFPA 1072
– Hazmat Operations NFPA 1072
– First Aid Level 3
Compulsory Fitness Test:
All shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake and pass the following physical test:
– Reach test (1.9 m)
– 2.4 km run (Males 11 minutes and Females 13 minutes)
– Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
– Sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
– Dead load carries (2 x 25 kg drums over a distance of 100 m)
Additional Requirements:
– Pass a written assessment and an interview
– Submit fingerprints or identity numbers for criminal record checks
– Undergo a City medical evaluation
– Undergo a compulsory drug test at a City testing center
– Pass a claustrophobia and acrophobia test (fear of confined spaces and fear of heights)
Note:
– Successful candidates will sign a non-permanent contract position for the duration of training.
– Candidates will only be appointed to a permanent Learner Fire Fighter position on successful completion of the prescribed training programme.
Basic Salary: R 199 340 per annum
